ASME/OSHA Course Description

Fundamentals of Rigging (CA-103): 8-Hour Course
Discusses the fundamentals of rigging. It is designed for individuals rigging and handling loads in construction, manufacturing, utilities, and various environments that must adhere to the OSHA regulations. The ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) and Crosby recommendations are heavily addressed as well. The main topics discussed will include risk management and the basic rigging plan, basic rigging principles when using wire rope, chain and synthetic slings in conjunction with Crosby hardware, rigging triangle considerations, rigging hardware and sling application. Please refer to course agenda and or objectives regarding course (CA-103) for more detailed information. This course is a prerequisite for attending course CA-201. (Crosby pre-approval is required for attendance.)

Intermediate Rigging (CA-201): 8-Hour Course
This course builds upon the fundamentals with more emphasis devoted to inspection of the rigging hardware and slings, considerations when working with blocks and sheaves, basic considerations when using lifting clamps, tips when using the Crosby rigging card, various methods for calculating load weight, determining location of the center of gravity, and how to determine sling tension and loads on the rigging gear for proper sling and hardware selection. Time will also be allocated for team workshops and quizzes to enhance the learning experience. Please refer to course agenda and or objectives regarding course (CA-201) for more detailed information. You must have attended course CA-103 to be eligible to attend. (Crosby pre-approval is required for attendance.)

Rigging Trainer Development Course (CA-301): 4 Hour Course
In order to attend this course you must have attended one of these courses (CA-201, CA-202, CA-203) the day prior or have attended the Crosby Rigging Trainer Development course within the last 4 years. This 4 Hour course is designed to prepare the attendees for conducting future classroom training utilizing the Crosby training materials and tools, while meeting all Crosby requirements and increasing the attendee’s knowledge of basic rigging and intermediate concepts. Only those individuals who submit an application and are pre-approved may attend.

Block Clinic (CA-206): 4-Hour Course
Crosby McKissick Block Clinic (CA-206): This course discusses basic block concepts, block terminology and application/inspection of Crosby McKissick crane blocks, snatch blocks, sheaves and overhaul balls. It is designed for individuals working in construction environments utilizing mobile cranes. Please refer to course agenda and or objectives regarding course (CA-206) for more detailed information.

Heavy Lift (CA-205): 7-Hour Course
Crosby Heavy Lift (CA-205): This course covers various examples of worldwide heavy lifts, critical lift and the rigging plan, heavy lift shackles, hooks, terminations, blocks, bearings and various heavy lift considerations. Instructor led lecture combined with several team workshops is utilized to enhance learning. Please refer to course agenda and or objectives regarding course (CA-205) for more detailed information.

Advanced Rigging (CA-204): 7-Hour Course
This course is designed to provide individuals more advanced rigging education, beyond the basics. Main topics covered include a review of basic rigging fundamentals, different methods of determining the weight, and center of gravity of various loads, pros and cons of various multiple leg hitches, how to calculate sling tension and loading on connection points, how to calculate sling length depending on horizontal sling angle desired, and how to calculate block loading when lifting. The course will also include many newly developed videos and workshop activities to enhance the learning experience.
