Forged Alloy Steel
Alloy steel forging is done by heat treatment, or hot forging. This ensures that the properties of the product have increased strength, resistance, and toughness.
Quenched and Tempered
The Crosby Quenched and Tempered heat treatment is a process that has been developed and perfected by Crosby over the years. It provides hooks, split balls, and other products with the four most important components that instill confidence in our customers.
Those Four Components Are:
- WLL: Working Load Limit for a product
- Ductility: This causes the product to deform before ultimate failure if overloaded past its WLL
- Fatigue Resistance: This enables the product to endure multiple load uses
- Toughness: The products ability to resist fracture
QUIC-CHECK Markings
These markings are forged into the hooks that indicate if the item has undergone abuse and reached deformation. This allows for the product user to know if the item needs to be retired from service. Operators can know if the equipment has become faulty or unsafe to use.
The first is designed to determine if the throat opening has been changed – thus indicating abuse or overload. The second set of marks indicate the maximum included angle that is allowed between two sling legs in the hook, as well as provides the opportunity to approximate other included angles between two sling legs.
Furnished with a Latch
Each hook is furnished with a latch, that when properly attached and secured with the correct device, meets the intent OSHA Rule 1925.550 for personnel lifting.
